It is often said that there are a lot of cultures in the world, which makes the globe more colorful. In my opinion, development of technology is making a single world culture. This is because fast food has spread because of technology’s advance, and because the Internet has revolutionized the way people view themselves and the world around them.

Firstly, owing to progress in technology, fast food has been able to spread all over the world. To put it differently, almost every country in the world has a McDonald’s and has consequently been influenced by the fast-food phenomenon of the American culture. Big companies like McDonald’s have global management systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning, and by means of them transnational corporations can operate their management activities simultaneously. Those technologies help multinational enterprises reinforce their influence over the world market. Accordingly, big food companies can have power to unify and manipulate the taste of people all over the world.

Another reason is that the World Wide Web has changed peoples’ perception about the world and themselves. Namely, young people increasingly view themselves as global citizens. They can access information around the world. Through social networks like Facebook or Twitter, people can communicate with those who live on opposite sides of the global village easily and concurrently. Moreover, transportation has made the earth one-day economic area. These have made people aware of news around the world is very closely related to themselves.

On the whole, Modern technology allows fast food to be distributed all over the world, and allows the Internet to innovate the way of people’s thinking. For these reasons, I strongly believe that today’s technology has made the globe into a single cultural area.
