It is often said that learning alone is more efficient than with an instructor. When it comes to the statement that people learn better with the help of a teacher than alone, I strongly agree. This is because people are distracted easily while studying alone, and because learning by yourself can be lonely.

 

To begin with, studying alone can cause distraction to students. To be specific, there are numerous distracting variables, and these can disturb students’ academic achievement constantly. TV, the Internet and stray thoughts coming to mind are the examples of this. Generally speaking, studying is a boring process whereas distracting variables consistently stimulate people’s sensory organ. However, audience effect, which is a term describing situation that people are doing better in front of other people, will ameliorate studying efficiency when studying with a teacher. For example, most people who try to pick up languages on their own often are unable to focus their mental energy. This is because learning language mainly consists of memorizing work, which does not need thinking ability a lot. In this case, acquiring languages by communicating with one another can bring about greater outcome to students. Therefore, learning by oneself is not effective as studying in a group is.

 

What is more, learning alone is sometimes lonely course. To put it another way, studying by oneself is difficult to get emotional support and communicate with other people regarding study matter. In this circumstance, learners are hard to feel sense of achievement and not easy to ask somebody questions without any emotional backing. It can make students feel loneliness, frustration, and especially in case of tough tests like Bar exam in the United States, some students might go through depression. For instance, in a classroom setting or even one-on-one tutoring session, a student is able to receive emotional support. By spending time together with their peers students are able to feel sense of bond and receive commend from their teacher in response to their good performances. Consequently, studying with other people will help learners’ emotional stabilization.

 

To conclude, studying with a teacher enables students not to be distracted easily, and not to feel lonesomeness. In this respect, I am in favor of the idea that studying with learning alone is not more effective than with a teacher.
