Some people may say that good-looking people deserve their physical beauty. However, I think that one should never judge a person by external appearances. The reasons for this are that people often cannot control their external appearances, and that there are more important things than a person’s external appearance.

To start with, they had no choice but to have lived with their appearances from birth in the case of unattractive people. To explain, they did not choose how their looking would be. Due to the external traits, unattractive people have often been judged harshly from childhood, even though they might be very kind and well-intentioned. In order to overcome this social prejudice, physically not attractive people have to put much effort to be treated differently. Thus, many unattractive people are diligent, hard-workers and good citizens. In the case of people having unappealing appearance, there is high possibility that they are not bad as much as they look like.

What is more, a person’s external appearance is not more significant than his/her character. Namely, a person’s personality is the most crucial thing about him/her. Only personality can shows one’s own life experience, whereas physical looking can be fabricated. How a person behaves, speaks and thinks is the only way to evaluate the reality of him/her. For example, we experience changing view of value to choose a spouse. Generally, young people think that a good looking is the most important standard to select a spouse. On the other hand, as people get older, they start to think a person’s character is the most significant factor to choose their life companion. External appearance is not as lasting as personality does, and good character even can make one’s spouse feel happy and comfortable for the lifetime. An inner side of a person far outweighs his/her outer appearance on this account.

To sum up, judging others by their appearances is misleading. This is because external appearances cannot represent a person’s character as well as the real value of physically unattractive people. In this regard, I strongly believe that we should not look at other people with bias according to their looking.
